Hyperpigmentation happens to the best of us. These common skin concerns have a genetic component, but those of us who have a sun-worshipper past or just spend a lot of time outdoors are extra-prone. What is the Cosmelan MD depigmentation peel?

Cosmelan is a multi-step treatment that inhibits melanin from forming in the skin, helping to reduce dark spots and visible sun damage, as well as hyperpigmentation. A wonderful alternative to laser resurfacing and traditional chemical peels, Cosmelan is a medical-grade topical treatment that is suitable for all skin types an requires no downtime.

Treatment is started here at our medical spa and continued by you at home with an easy skincare protocol.

Am I a good candidate for Cosmelan?

Cosmelan can be a very effective, non-invasive treatment for:

  • melasma
  • solar lentigines
  • UV damage
  • Age spots and sun spots
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Cosmelan is safe for all skin types, but as always we will start with a free skin evaluation and consultation to ensure it is the right treatment option for your needs and goals.

Your Cosmelan treatment at LJCMS

We’ll begin by cleansing and gently exfoliating your skin. This step helps clear away debris and maximize the absorption of the Cosmelan 1 mask, which we will apply to your clean skin.

With the mask on your face, you will go home with detailed instructions and a kit including products to remove the mask, and daily skincare to prolong your results. Depending on your skin type and the degree of discoloration, we will ask you to leave the Cosmelan 1 mask on your skin for 6-12 hours before washing it off.

Next, you will apply the Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream 2-3 times per day for about four weeks to continue the process of depigmentation. Be sure to keep your skin moisturized and protected from the sun with SPF throughout the process.

Skin typically begins to peel, similar to healing after a sunburn, within several days. As this happens, you’ll notice healthier-looking skin coming through. This peeling process is relatively quick, and your skin should look healthier and brighter within a few days.
