BroadBand Light (BBL) photo-rejuvenation (a.k.a. “photofacial”) reduces pigmentation problems such as age spots, sun spots, large pores, and broken capillaries with little-to-no downtime.
Similar to a laser treatment, BBL Photo Rejuvenation sends Intense Pulse Light (IPL) energy through the skin’s surface to leave you with a clearer, more even complexion after just a few treatments. The main difference is that BBL uses a spectrum of light wavelengths vs. a single focused wavelength.
What can BBL Photo Rejuvenation treat?
BBL is particularly excellent for treating pigment-based and vascular skin concerns, such as:
- Brown spots
- Sun damage
- Chronic redness
- Broken capillaries
- Vascular lesions

What to expect with a BBL treatment at La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa
The average treatment time is 30-45 minutes. After cleansing your skin, we will apply a numbing cream to keep you comfortable during treatment. The BBL treatment feels very similar to laser treatment. The handheld device will deliver pulses of light through the skin’s surface.
The various light wavelengths in BBL are drawn to various brown and red pigments in the skin. The beams of light absorb and effectively neutralize this pigment. As the skin heals, more evenly-toned skin is revealed.
How soon will I see results?
Your skin will be pinkish right after treatment. This effect lasts only a few hours, but you can conceal it with makeup if desired (we will advise you on safe products to use post-treatment). Treated pigmentation spots will darken slightly and then slough off over the course of a week or so. After 2 weeks, results should be evident. Patients typically require 3-5 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, for optimal results.
