Frequently Asked Questions about San Diego BOTOX
Our La Jolla Director of Aesthetic Services, Lauren Amico Reed, PA-C, MMS fields a lot of questions about neurotoxins like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin. Lauren has extensive training in performing cosmetic injections and has established a reputation in San Diego for achieving beautiful results and for her dedication to her patients’ overall well-being. If you are considering BOTOX for the first time, we encourage you to read the Q & A below.
Q: What is BOTOX?
Q: What areas can BOTOX treat?
A: BOTOX® is most commonly used to reduce wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. BOTOX can also be used to reduce excessive sweating in the armpits and hands. Watch the video below for more on this question:
Q: How long will the procedure take?
A: The procedure typically takes about 10-15 minutes.
Q: Do BOTOX injections hurt?
A: We use a very tiny needle to inject each unit of BOTOX. Most patients say they feel some stinging and pinching, but not very much pain.
Preparing for your Botox treatment
Q: When can I return to work, resume normal activity, drive, and exercise?
A: You can resume normal activities immediately after treatment; however, we advise patients not to participate in strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Q: How long will it take to notice the final results?
A: On average, patients will notice full results within 7-10 days.
Q: How long can I expect the results to last?
A: BOTOX benefits will vary from patient to patient. Results typically last 3-4 months.
Q: Are there any long term side-effects?
A: There are no known long-term side effects of BOTOX injections. Side effects are generally temporary and well-tolerated. Common side effects include bruising, swelling, and headache. Eyelid and eyebrow droop are rare temporary side effects.
You can reduce your risk of side effects by seeking treatment from a well-trained injector. Do your research before attending “Botox parties” or using deals found through online coupon sites. These may seem like a good way to get BOTOX at a bargain, but if the practitioner administering treatment is not adequately trained or experienced in giving injections, your results may be subpar. Also, your risk of experiencing side effects may increase.
